how do you hire an FPGA engineer through a recruitment agency?

An FPGA engineer designs the programmable logic of a circuit in VHDL or Verilog. Muzzo gives your role to the headhunters who place this rare profile: they verify designs that have actually been synthesised. Fee of 5 to 30%, paid on hire. Leaves within 3 months: we restart the search free.

how it works

you only pay if you hire

  1. 01

    you describe the role

Using the form above: the role, your company, the target and language. The rest is framed in your first chat with the Muzzo team.

  2. 02

    our data chooses the headhunters

AI picks those who have placed the most FPGA engineers, among more than 2 500 selected headhunters.

  3. 03

    you meet the best profiles

Approached and qualified by expert headhunters in the field. You choose who you see.

  4. 04

    you hire, then you pay

Not before. If the hire leaves their role within 3 months, we restart the search free.

let's talk about your hire

Antoine and the Muzzo team help you frame your role and pick the right headhunters. Describe your role in the form: we'll call you back to discuss.

one more question?

With Muzzo, you set the fee from 5 to 30%, and you only pay it on hire: no upfront costs, no setup fees. A junior engineer documenting logic blocks and an R&D manager balancing an entire circuit don't ask for the same search. The fee follows this rarity, and the Muzzo team helps you set it.

You have double protection. If the hire leaves within 3 months (for example, because the real scope doesn't match the brief), we restart the search free. With no replacement found within 4 months, we refund 50% of your fee. On average, 94% of Muzzo hires are still in place after 3 months.

the reality

an FPGA engineer is judged by what passes synthesis, not their CV

01

a rare profile, never on job boards

They are in the middle of design or verification of a design, often on a confidential project. A specialist headhunter in engineering knows how to approach them and persuade them.

02

VHDL, Verilog, FPGA or ASIC: the same title covers very different choices

A design engineer writes the logic. A verification engineer builds the test benches that validate it before synthesis. The headhunter starts from your target and your language, not the job title.

03

a design error is discovered after fabrication, and it's costly

A logic bug not detected before synthesis may force a complete redesign of the circuit. The headhunter verifies designs that have actually been synthesised and verified before introducing you to someone.

the roles

the FPGA engineer profiles our headhunters will find for you

From digital architecture to verification before synthesis, each search goes to a headhunter who has already placed this profile.

  1. FPGA design engineer

They write logic in VHDL or Verilog and choose the digital architecture of the circuit. The most sought and rarest profile.

  2. FPGA verification engineer

They build the test benches and simulations that validate the logic before synthesis, without ever touching silicon.

  3. ASIC engineer

They design a dedicated integrated circuit rather than reprogrammable logic, for a production volume that justifies the investment.

  4. junior FPGA engineer

They design under supervision and document the logic blocks, often after an engineering degree in electronics.

  5. FPGA and ASIC R&D manager

They lead the design team and balance performance, power consumption and circuit fabrication cost.

the method

a headhunter of programmable logic, not a catch-all agency

FPGA design is judged by what passes synthesis and verification. The method starts from what the role needs to deliver.

01

we define the target and the language

FPGA or ASIC, VHDL or Verilog, defence or space confidentiality constraints: the brief describes the real target, not just the job title.

02

a headhunter who places FPGA engineers

Among more than 2 500 selected headhunters, your role goes to those who place the most on this rare profile.

03

a design actually synthesised and verified

The headhunter asks for a project carried through to synthesis, the verification benches used and what the design review changed. Then they cross-check in reference calls.

hiring an FPGA engineer: what you need to know

why entrust FPGA engineer recruitment to a headhunter?

The FPGA engineer designs the programmable logic of a circuit, often for defence, space, telecoms or industry. This is a rare profile, currently employed and busy with a design project, who will never respond to generic job postings.

A specialist headhunter knows how to approach them and ask the right questions: what language, what target, what level of confidentiality. This page covers the FPGA engineer role itself; for electronic card design, see our electronics engineer page, and for the embedded software that then runs on the target, our embedded systems engineer page.

why entrust FPGA engineer recruitment to a headhunter?

VHDL or Verilog: what difference for recruitment?

Both languages describe the same hardware logic, with different syntax and team habits. An engineer from defence or space has often learned VHDL; a profile from telecoms or consumer electronics more often learns Verilog or SystemVerilog.

An experienced engineer generally switches from one to the other without major difficulty. The language choice matters less in the brief than the hardware target and the level of verification required.

VHDL or Verilog: what difference for recruitment?

FPGA or ASIC: which engineer to hire?

FPGA can be reprogrammed after fabrication: it suits small runs, prototypes and products that evolve. ASIC is etched once and for all: it's expensive to design but cheaper at scale.

An FPGA design engineer and an ASIC engineer share some skills, but not the same tools or fabrication constraints. Specify the target in the brief before launching the search.

how do you evaluate an FPGA engineer in interview?

The CV lists synthesis tools and component families. The interview must show something else: the ability to explain an architecture choice or a bug discovered late, after synthesis.

A practical case works well: a logic block to review, a timing constraint added at the last minute, and twenty minutes to explain the trade-off. The headhunter does this first filter before introducing you to someone, and verifies in reference calls the synthesised and verified designs claimed.

defence, space, telecoms or industry: what changes for the role?

In defence and space, the role comes with very strict confidentiality and reliability requirements, sometimes a clearance. In telecoms, the pace is faster and production volumes are higher. In industry, cost constraints weigh more than pure performance.

An engineer from a regulated sector generally adapts well to a faster sector; the reverse is less true. The brief must set this context before launching the search.

your questions on FPGA engineer recruitment

Apec does not publish a family specific to FPGA, but the closest family, electrical and electronic engineering, shows a marked gap by sector: €51k median in electrical and electronic equipment, against €46k in services (2025 edition). Budget responsibility also matters: €53k median with this responsibility, against €49k without.

Neither should be a filter. Both languages describe the same hardware logic, and an experienced engineer generally switches from one to the other without difficulty. Specify instead the hardware target and the level of verification required in the brief.

FPGA can be reprogrammed after fabrication, ASIC is etched once at scale. An FPGA design engineer and an ASIC engineer share some skills, but not the same tools. If your product is still evolving, start with an FPGA-focused role.

The headhunter asks for a project actually carried through to synthesis: the verification benches used, a bug discovered late and how it was fixed. They cross-check in reference calls. You meet profiles whose deliverables are verified, not just claimed.
