your questions about hiring in the Var
With Muzzo, you set the fee for each role, between 5 and 30%, and you only pay it once you hire. No retainer, no fixed fees. A wine estate director isn't hired like a seasonal hospitality worker: the fee follows how hard the role is to fill.
You have a double guarantee. If your new hire leaves within 3 months, we restart the search at no cost. If we don't find a replacement within 4 months, we refund 50% of the fees. On average, 94% of Muzzo hires are still in post after 3 months.

the reality
in the Var, two economies turn their backs on each other
two areas, two economies
To the east, Fréjus, Saint-Raphaël and Draguignan live off seasonal tourism. In Upper Var, agriculture and wine dominate. An operations manager isn't hired the same way on both sides of the department.
the region's strongest seasonality
In the East Var area, 67% of hiring plans are seasonal, well above the regional average. Permanent employers struggle to retain profiles caught up by the high season.
Draguignan: from county seat to barracks
Former Var county seat until 1974, Draguignan now hosts the military schools of artillery and infantry, 30 km from the Canjuers training ground. An employment area apart, far from the codes of coastal tourism.

hiring in the Var: what you need to know
how do you choose a recruitment agency in the Var?
The department has two very different labour markets: the seasonal tourism of East Var, around Fréjus, Saint-Raphaël and Draguignan, and the agriculture of the interior. An agency that places hospitality operations managers well isn't necessarily the right one for a wine estate role.
Rather than one agency for the whole department, Muzzo hands each role to whichever of our 2,500 selected headhunters gets the best results in that specific field, whether it's East Var or Upper Var.
how much does a recruitment agency cost in the Var?
An agency's fees mostly depend on how scarce the role is: a wine estate director isn't hired like a seasonal hospitality worker, and some agencies ask for a retainer regardless of outcome.
With Muzzo, the fee is between 5 and 30%, set by you and paid only on hire. No retainer, no fixed fees, whether the role is seasonal or permanent.
what is the East Var employment area?
The East Var employment area brings together three employment zones: Fréjus, Draguignan and Sainte-Maxime, according to France Travail. In 2026, it concentrates 17,880 hiring plans, 67% with a seasonal character, the highest share of Var employment areas, and 41% are rated difficult by employers.
The most sought-after roles there are tourism jobs: café and restaurant servers, hospitality employees, kitchen assistants. Supervisors for these teams are in short supply most of the year.
what is the Upper Var employment area?
In contrast, the Upper Var area has only 4,960 hiring plans forecast for 2026, the region's lowest volume, but 21% of them are in agriculture and agribusiness, versus 7% in East Var. The most sought-after roles there are farmers and wine growers, fruit growers.
Wine-growing is Upper Var's primary agricultural asset: the department has 30,137 hectares of vineyard, 22,668 hectares of which are AOC-protected, and remains France's 6th largest wine-producing department and the world's leading rosé producer, according to the Var Department.
why does Draguignan have a separate employment market?
Draguignan was the Var county seat from 1800 to 1974, before the county administration moved to Toulon by decree, a shift experienced as a rupture by part of the city at the time.
Since 1 August 2010, the city has hosted the Draguignan military schools, bringing together the artillery and infantry schools on 60 hectares, 30 km from the Canjuers training ground, western Europe's largest firing complex. An employment area that remains modest at the department level: 14,113 salaried jobs in Draguignan by end 2024, well behind Toulon or Fréjus (17,720), according to Insee.
how do our headhunters hire in the Var?
The headhunter assigned to your role knows the relevant area, East Var tourism or Upper Var agriculture, and the employers already hiring there in that field. They approach profiles already in post directly rather than waiting for applications.
Whether the role needs filling before the season, in Fréjus, or year-round, in an Upper Var estate, the average time is the same: 26 days from briefing to signing. If your new hire leaves within 3 months, we restart the search at no cost.
your questions about hiring in the Var
According to France Travail, 41% of the 17,880 hiring plans in the East Var area are rated difficult by employers in 2026, and 67% have a seasonal character: teams are rebuilt each year, often in a rush, before the tourist season.
