how do you hire an account manager through a recruitment agency?
A good account manager grows an existing portfolio without letting it erode. Muzzo gives your role to the headhunters who place the most account managers: they verify renewal rate and accounts moved upmarket. Fee of 5 to 30%, paid on hire. Leaves within 3 months: we restart the search free.

one last question?
With Muzzo, you set the fee between 5 and 30%, paid only on hire: no deposit, no fixed fees. A junior account manager on small accounts and a senior account manager taking the most exposed mid-market accounts do not require the same search. The fee follows that difficulty, and the Muzzo team helps you set it.
You have a double guarantee. If the new hire leaves within 3 months, for example because the actual portfolio did not match the brief, we restart the search at no cost. If we find no replacement within 4 months, we refund 50% of fees. On average, 94% of Muzzo hires are still in post after 3 months.

the reality
an account manager is judged by the portfolio they grow, not by seniority
a good portfolio manager does not look for a job
They hold their clients, their renewal rate and their account plan. A headhunter in client relations knows how to approach them without damaging what they have built.
growing and retaining is not the same as signing
A good account manager moves an already-won client upmarket and anticipates renewal. The headhunter verifies what they have grown, not just what they have kept.
a hiring mistake shows in the churn rate
A poorly handed-over portfolio degrades within months. The headhunter verifies the real renewal rate and accounts grown before introducing you to anyone.
the roles
the account manager profiles our headhunters go after for you
From a first portfolio in an SME to the most demanding mid-market account, each search goes to a headhunter who has already hired that profile.
account manager
They grow an existing client portfolio, moving accounts upmarket and anticipating each renewal. The most requested role in this job family.
junior account manager
They manage a first portfolio, often of small accounts, under the supervision of a senior account manager or manager.
senior account manager
They take the most exposed mid-market accounts, those where a loss costs the company most.
client manager
The account manager equivalent in banking, insurance or business services. They follow a portfolio across a sector or territory.
customer success manager generalist
They combine usage tracking and account growth, often in a structure too small to separate the two roles.
the method
a client relations headhunter, not an agency that does everything
An account manager is judged by what they grow, not by what they say. The method starts from the actual state of the portfolio to be handed over.
we define the portfolio to grow
Number of accounts, average size, current renewal rate, upmarket potential: the brief describes the portfolio, not just the job title.

a verified renewal rate in reference
The headhunter asks for the real renewal rate of the previous portfolio and accounts moved upmarket, then cross-checks them before introducing you.

hiring an account manager: what you need to know
why use a headhunter to hire an account manager?
The account manager starts with an already-signed client portfolio and must grow it without letting it erode. Good profiles are in post, busy with their renewals, and do not answer job ads.
A client relations headhunter knows how to approach them and ask the right questions: portfolio size, renewal rate achieved, accounts moved upmarket. You meet account managers who have grown a portfolio, not just managed tickets.

account manager, key account manager, account executive: who does what?
The account manager grows a portfolio of already-acquired SME and mid-market clients. The key account manager does the same job on a small number of very large accounts, often with buying centers and annual negotiation. The account executive signs new clients and hands off the account once the contract is signed.
Specify in the brief the average account size and portfolio volume: an account manager handling forty SME accounts and one handling five all mid-market do not recruit to the same profile or salary.

how does an account manager grow a portfolio?
Three levers appear in most roles: moving existing clients upmarket, widening to new contacts at an already-signed account, and anticipating renewal before contract expiry. A good account manager can tell you which one they have worked hardest on in their previous role.
In interview, ask for figures rather than a description of the role: how many accounts in the portfolio, what renewal rate, what share of revenue comes from upsells. The headhunter does this first screen before introducing you.
SaaS, B2B services, manufacturing: same account manager everywhere?
In B2B software, the account manager tracks product usage as much as the business relationship, often close to customer success. In B2B services or manufacturing, they manage a more traditional relationship: regular site visits, annual renegotiation, satisfaction tracking.
Our headhunters choose the profile for that context: an account manager from a software publisher does not necessarily have the reflexes expected in a traditional services company, and vice versa. The brief specifies the sector and sales channel.
your questions about hiring an account manager
According to Apec, client relations managers earn a median of 54 k€ gross annually, variable included, with 80% between 39 and 91 k€ (2025 edition). Budget responsibility weighs more than age: 56 k€ with own budget, 51 k€ without.
Often. According to Apec, 63% of client relations managers have variable pay, a median of €5,300 a year, vs 50% for all managers (2025 edition). Prepare the portion linked to renewal and upsells before the first interview.
The account manager follows a portfolio of SME and mid-market clients, with many dozens of accounts to grow. The key account manager focuses on a handful of very large accounts, often with buying centers and annual negotiation. For large accounts, see our key account manager page.
The headhunter asks for facts: portfolio size taken over, renewal rate achieved, accounts moved upmarket. They cross-check them in reference before introducing the profile.
